Mindfulness programs  for illness and chronic pain

Calm your distress and open to thriving - despite circumstances

Healing is coming to terms with how things are.

Jon Kabat-Zinn

For most of us, being unwell and in pain causes shock, mental anguish and distress. While mindfulness training can’t necessarily change the illness itself, our programs have been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, depression and pain and improve symptom management and enjoyment of life.

The MSBR program remains the gold-standard program for relieving physical and mental suffering associated with illness. Mindfulness training can promote self-awareness, self-care, self-regulation, and self-management of disease. It can ‘buffer’ emotional and physiological reactions to stress, providing one plausible biological mechanism for protecting against stress-related diseases.  MBSR is recommended as an adjunct treatment for people who are suffering with hypertension, diabetes, cancer, chronic pain, Parkinson’s, osteoarthritis, MS, rheumatoid arthritis, gastrointestinal disease, and migraine.  This support can reduce the mental health burden that often accompanies illness.

You will be supported by the relationship with the teacher and by the group. You will find practices that help you to find more ease, calm, non-reactivity and clarity. This course is designed to complement your existing therapy or support system, providing you with invaluable tools to navigate the complexities of your healing process and day-to-day living.
