Connect and grow your practice

Something quite precious can be discovered in the MBSR program - which you may want to tend and grow through having the support of a teacher and a group of fellow-travellers to practice with each week.

Now you can attend a Zoom group, with the MBSR teacher of your choice, from the comfort of your own home or office or car!  In this six week program, we will offer a theme each week, and practice together, followed by some time for exploring our practice and lives - just as we do in MBSR.

This practice group is an alive, personalised, responsive, real-time engagement between the teacher, the participants and the practice.  The cost of the six week program is $129 and the venue is your place.

 

PRE-REQUISITE: Please note that this online practice group is suitable for people who have some experience of mindfulness meditation already - for example - for those who have completed the MBSR course or equivalent. It is not an introduction to mindfulness.

What will you be learning in the course?

Do I need to have completed an eight-week course to attend the online practice group?

Yes.  We have found this online forum doesn't work so well with people who haven't immersed themselves in a practice for a short period of time and also explored the rationale for various practices more fully through a step-by-step program.

Relevant prior immersion would be any eight-week program like MBSR, MBCT or MICBT. Other forms of intro training - like an app, ACT or DBT usually doesn't provide the basics in the way an eight-week practice-based course does.

 

 

I need to miss a couple of sessions. Is this OK?

That is fine. It is not a drop-in group.  The places in the program are limited, so your place will be held for you, even though you may miss some sessions.  

What equipment will I need?

We like to use Zoom because this enables the teacher and all participants to see each other and speak simultaneously, just like in a regular class. 

Each person on a group Zoom video call will need:
  • Zoom app on phone or computer - Download it here
  • A high-speed broadband connection
  • A webcam
  • A microphone and speakers (built-in or separate headset with microphone)
  • If using Windows, a DirectX 9.0c compatible video card

Since doing your course (Living with Wisdom and Compassion) my major transformation has been in my daily work as a family doctor. Instead of being the best doctor I can so that patients will admire me and appreciate me I am aware that I am regularly “putting myself in my patients shoes.” I want their lives to be better and their suffering to diminish. It was great to be able to explore the strength of compassion, both internally and externally, through Living with Wisdom and Compassion. This course builds on what MBSR began. While it had its challenging moments, I came away from it feeling stress-relief thanks to my heart softening yet strengthening. And from the ability to see that even though we are all unique individuals, and we may express ourselves in wildly different ways, we all have the same needs. The better I can get at understanding those needs the more effective I can be in helping myself and others. I highly recommend this course to everyone.
