Mindfulness Weekend Retreat - Hepburn Springs -VIC

Rest and Restore

Weekend Retreat | 7 - 9 September 2018

So I gently urge you Vasco, do as we do in Curly Flat - learn to curl up and rest - feel your noble tiredness - learn about it and make a generous place for it in your life and enjoyment will surely follow. I repeat: it's worth doing nothing and having a rest.

(excerpt from a letter by Mr Culy to lone voyager Vasco Pyjama in The Curly Pyjama Letters by Michael Leunig, Viking Penguin 2001)

We reckon Mr Curly is right! So often we have to override our tiredness and “push on,” feeding into what Michael Leunig suggests are pervasive states of anxiety and restlessness. Retreats are a unique opportunity to give ourselves permission to stop, rest and restore the mind, body and heart. Join Nik and Maggie again for a beautiful weekend of nature, meditation, movement, delicious food, connection, steam treatments, massage and rest.

What's included with the Retreat

The retreat will once again take place in the beautifully refurbished 1920s Continental Guesthouse, perched high in the bushland of Hepburn Springs, and just across the road from the Goldfields Walking Trail.

The retreat will mostly be silent, but with some times for connecting & sharing with other participants, including the Friday night meal on arrival.

Guidance will be provided by Nik & Maggie as we practice mindfulness in movement, yoga and stillness.

All food – delicious & nutritious vegetarian meals – will be prepared by a local caterer specialising in slow food. There will also be time to visit the Springs, walk in the bush, enjoy a massage, or simply rest.

The retreat will officially commence around 6pm with dinner on the Friday, but participants are invited to make the most of the opportunity to check in anytime from 2pm & enjoy a trip down to the Hepburn Bathhouse, a bushwalk or book into a massage at the Guesthouse. We will finish by 3pm Sunday.

What People Are Saying

I have learnt a lot about myself through the MBSR course. Coming from a place of feeling very disconnected to myself, I now feel I am engaged and listening to what I need, which then has allowed me to handle what life has to offer in a positive way.

Since doing your course (Living with Wisdom and Compassion) my major transformation has been in my daily work as a family doctor. Instead of being the best doctor I can so that patients will admire me and appreciate me I am aware that I am regularly “putting myself in my patients shoes.” I want their lives to be better and their suffering to diminish. Whether that is through my doctoring or something not related to me is not relevant.

Understanding mindfulness has changed my life.

It was great to be able to explore the strength of compassion, both internally and externally, through Living with Wisdom and Compassion. This course builds on what MBSR began. While it had its challenging moments, I came away from it feeling stress-relief thanks to my heart softening yet strengthening. And from the ability to see that even though we are all unique individuals, and we may express ourselves in wildly different ways, we all have the same needs. The better I can get at understanding those needs the more effective I can be in helping myself and others. I highly recommend this course to everyone.

Bravo Ingrid Jolley and Openground! Thank you for your soothing and strengthening MBSR course. I’m feeling grounded, curious and hopeful about the future. I have the tools I need to lead an authentic, fulfilling life.
