Introduction to Mindfulness - Taster Sessions

What is mindfulness and can it 'work' for me?

If you are wondering if the practice of mindfulness could be of value for you, come to our taster session.  This workshop will give you a handle on some of the scientific research behind it and also an introduction to mindfulness practice so you can see if it is something that you want to begin applying to your life.

You will receive a handout and downloadable practices too. If you decide to come and do the  Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction at some time in the future, you can deduct the cost of the workshop from your fee. 

What is involved?

  • A friendly talk and discussion and some mindfulness practice.
  • Hear about some of the science behind the practice.
  • You will explore tools and processes that you can immediately use.

We will cover the following topics:

  • The benefits of mindfulness and meditation
  • Automatic pilot and being present        
  • Working with thoughts and emotions
  • The place of acceptance and action
  • Kindness and compassion in life
  • The place of practice in mindfulness

Since doing your course (Living with Wisdom and Compassion) my major transformation has been in my daily work as a family doctor. Instead of being the best doctor I can so that patients will admire me and appreciate me I am aware that I am regularly “putting myself in my patients shoes.” I want their lives to be better and their suffering to diminish. It was great to be able to explore the strength of compassion, both internally and externally, through Living with Wisdom and Compassion. This course builds on what MBSR began. While it had its challenging moments, I came away from it feeling stress-relief thanks to my heart softening yet strengthening. And from the ability to see that even though we are all unique individuals, and we may express ourselves in wildly different ways, we all have the same needs. The better I can get at understanding those needs the more effective I can be in helping myself and others. I highly recommend this course to everyone.
